Tumuli in Daeseong-dong

Located at 434 Daeseong-dong, Gimhae, the tumuli were excavated by the museum of Kyungsung University several times. Many important relics and skeletons were discovered and the site was designated as National Historic Site No. 341 in 1991. Judging from the size of the main burial part of the large wooden burial chambers and the quantity and quality of burial goods, these were the tombs of the ruling class of Geumgwan Gaya from around 3rd century to 5th century. And through these excavations, the heyday of Geumgwan Gaya was identified as 4th century.

The Tumuli Museum exhibits the material excavated from the tombs in Daeseong-dong. This museum unveils the essence of Geumgwan Gaya and shows that Gimhae was the center of Gaya culture. The museum consists of indoor exhibition space and outdoor exhibition space. In the museum building, exhibition halls are on the first floor and research room, storage area and auxiliary facilities are on the ground floor. The exhibition halls on the first floor are divided into 5 spaces of Introduction, Overview, Tombs, Exchange, and Culture. Main items on display include a life size warrior on a horse recreated based on the skeleton excavated from a tomb in Yean-ri. In addition, life size replicas of tombs and relics are on display. Videos and dioramas aid the understanding of Gaya culture. A walking path leading to the top of the hill outside the museum and its surrounding area has been constructed for the visitors to look around the excavated sites.
