Muchuksan (Mt.)

Muchuksan (Mt.)

This mountain dividing Yangsan and Gimhae has many legends. There is Cheonji Pond right underneath the top of the mountain. A legend says that this pond was dug to establish a watercourse to the Tomb of King Suro. It is said that an old temple called Moeunam Temple was built by King Suro to pay tribute to his mother. And Baekunam Temple, which was built to promote Buddhism in the Garak Kingdom, is located in this mountain. As the mountain is by the Nakdonggang River, it is wonderful to look down the river during hiking. As this mountain is not connected to other mountains, it seems that it sprang out of the river. Strangely shaped rock peaks on the slopes make hiking a little hard but much more interesting. Most people start hiking at Mahyeon Hill and drop by at Seokgukam Temple and Moeumam Temple and proceed to the top. Taking the east path from Mahyeon Hill, a forked road appears. Taking the right path will lead you to Seokgulam Temple. Seokgulam Temple is a small temple but it has a magnificent view. Going north from the spring at the temple leads to a path between rocks. Following this path will take you to Moeumam Temple. The area around the 350m long circular line connecting Seokgulam Temple and Moeumam Temple is adorned with strangely shaped rocks. As the rocks are so enchanting, visitors forget time watching these rocks. Cheonji Pond is in a big basin behind Moeumam Temple and the top of the mountain is just past the place of prayer. At the top of the mountain, you can see the curvy Nakdonggang River running beneath and Manyeosan Mountain and Togok on the opposite side. When climbing down, taking the south slope and turning right at Cheoljeonju will take you to Hasachon Village, and taking the east path and passing Baekunam Temple will lead you to Yongdang Boat landing.
