Relics in Bonghwang-dong

It is a major shell mound of Gaya Period and the largest residential site of Geumgwan Gaya found. Along with the shell mound in Hoehyeon-ri, it was designated as Historic Site on Feb. 5, 2001. From the shell mound, the so called Gimhae Earthenware and various ironware, bone tools, and Hwacheon, a coin used during the reign of Wang Mang(9~22 A.D.) of China, were discovered. It shows the trading relationship at the time.Especially, burned rice was discovered for the first time and it is a very important material for the research of the origin of rice farming in Korea. In addition, on the hill, Yeouigak Pavilion and Hwangse Rock, which are related to the legend of General Hwangse and Maiden Yeoui, are located. And stilt houses and dwellings of Gaya Period were found. In March, 1999, the Museum of Busan National University excavated the shell mound in Heohyeon-ri again. The excavated section is exhibited in the lobby of City Hall. In 2002~2003, stilt houses, pit dwellings, watch tower, and wooden barricade were restored. An exhibition building of the cross section of the shell mound will be built in the future.
