Born on May 3, 1951 in Gimhae City Hanrimmyeon Yongdeokri Jangwon Village
The name of the village, Jangwon, originates from the 파조 of KIM Jonggan, 서강 KIM Gyegeum (A civil minister during the reign of Sejong ~ Danjong of the Joseon era; returned to the country after opposing the usurpation of the throne by Sejo and was thus called ‘六一거사, because one was added to the 생육신), who passed the higher civil examination in first place during 생원시.
Because of the aftereffects of forced labor during the Japanese occupation, KIM Jonggan's father passed away when KIM Jonggan was in 1st grade of elementary school. Afterwards, his mother, Lady Yuhui, brought up 3 sons and 2 daughters.
Recognized for his intelligence while a student at Anmyong Elementary School, KIM Jonggan moved onto Gimhae Middle School located in the city upon the strong recommendation of his teachers. Because he could not pay for the transportation fee, he woke up early in the morning, had his meal, and walked to the school and back. The commuting time was 4 hours.
Based on his grades, KIM Jonggan could have moved onto a school in an adjacent city, but because of his mother, he chose to attend Gimhae Agricultural High School, which was the only secondary school in the area. Because of financial difficulties, he laid aside his dream of attending college and instead enlisted in the Air Force. His enthusiasm for learning was shown in his reading and contemplation, 쇄through which he learned and better understood life's wisdom.
Advocated Gaya History Recovery Movement which unveiled a mysterious kingdom.
During high school, KIM Jonggan displayed superior leadership skills and swept all the oratory contests from high school to 일반부. Attentive to such talents, SHIN Wonshik, who was an alumnus of Gimhae Agricultural High School and member of the 11th National Assembly, recruited him. Thus, from 1981, KIM Jonggan worked as an assistant to the assemblyman.
After returning to his hometown in 1985 when the term of the 11th National Assembly expired, KIM Jonggan worked as director of the Gaya Oratory Academy and as head of the Association of Academies in Gimhae City. During the same time, he advocated the movement for recovering Gaya history, which was merely recorded as an account of a 'mysterious kingdom'. In July of 1988, he founded Korea's first popular, bimonthly journal devoted to the study of history entitled, Gaya. In March of the following year, he launched the newspaper called, Gimhae Times. Also, KIM Jonggan played a leading role in the establishment of the Gaya Cultural Research Society and served as its founding executive secretary, and later as vice president. During this time, he highlighted the need for an extensive scholarly exploration of Gaya history for its accurate understanding.
These activities significantly increased the interest of the academia and the public for Gaya history and served as catalyst for excavation work carried out on ancient tombs of Gimhae Daeseondong and of Juchon Yangdori as well as for creating a new wave of interest in research on Gaya history.
