Key Policies for the Future of Gimhae

By implementing the 3 key policies in a way that will make substantial impact for developing as a city in order to emerge as a model of excellence in the next 50 to 100 years, we promise to inform the global community of the outstanding culture of Gaya and consolidate the city's competitiveness.

Vision 1 Gimhae Where People Are Avid Readers!

Secure the necessary infrastructure to create a book reading city

  • Build a library per district
    • Expand the Public Library: Operate 10 city libraries including the Gimhae Public Library
    • Local Libraries: Establish and operate 100 such libraries by 2015 (Buildings of more than 10,000㎡)
    • Miracle Library (for children): 1,320㎡, 4 billion won, construction to be completed by 2010
    • Foreign Language Library: 1,000㎡, 500 million won, construction to be completed by 2010
  • Promote the Book Start Campaign
    • After birth~Before commencing school, Book gift package, To begin in 2009
  • Increase the number of library staff
    • 1 library staff per 5,800 residents, for a city of 500,000 residents

Promote Globalization of Book Reading City

  • Organize the country's first humanities book reading competition: October of each year
  • Apply for UNESCO designation as [World Book Capital] -> after 2012
  • Organize an international Book Start Symposium: To be held in 2015
    • Organize a Book Start Competition in Korea: 2012
      • Build Foundation (2007 ~ 2010) - Library infrastructure + Promote reading + Increase library staff
      • Promote Globalization (2011~2015) - Reading program + Organize international events
